GUWAHATI: Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia on Monday urged the State Government to look into the various problems faced by media houses of Assam.

Talking part in the debate on the Budget speech of the Finance Minister, Saikia said that considering the importance of the media in a democracy, the Government should take steps for resolving the problems plaguing the media houses of the State.

He further thanked the Government for announcing some new schemes in the Budget 2022-23. However, he expressed disappointment that no mention was made in the Budget regarding the Women’s University at Jorhat and the University of Cooperative Management at Sivasagar.

Mentioning that allegations are rife regarding illegal coal mining in areas of Upper Assam, Saikia urged the Government to look into the matter as well.
