Action sought against staff
Guwahati, May 14: Opposition leader Debabrata Saikia today demanded Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma to take action against the forest department officials, who had “unilaterally” put up pillars along the Assam-Nagaland border at Naginijan in Jorhat district.
In a statement, Saikia said the pillar demarcating the border have been put up at a time when the issue is pending at the Supreme Court.
“Putting up such pillars without conducting a proper joint survey by the forest and revenue departments may encourage the people of Nagaland or NSCN to encroach upon Assam’s land,” said the statement.
Saikia thanked Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi for protesting against putting up the pillars.
