Govt fails to bring corruption charges against Cong: Saikia

Leader of the Opposition in Assam Assembly, Debabrata Saikia of the Congress, today said the BJP led government in the state admitted in the House that no Congress minister or MLA has been charged with corruption cases.

However, the ruling party has been making wild allegations of corruption against the Congress inside and outside the Assembly, he said.

“The hollowness of the BJP-led government’s propaganda stood exposed in the House today when the government’s reply to the Un-Starred Question No. 894 revealed that no minister or MLAs of the Congress has so far been indicted on corruption charges,” Saikia said in a statement.

The BJP-led government in the state was levelling corruption charges against former ministers to divert people’s attention from its failure to work for development for almost two years, he alleged.

“It is surprising that the government’s reply mysteriously avoided any mention of reported scams such as the one involving the Louis Berger firm,” Saikia said.

It was unfortunate that the government made no mention of those accused of being involved in financial irregularities in Karbi Anglong district, and chitfunds such as Sharada or Rose Valley, he said.
