Assam Government has not fulfilled promises: Debabrata Saikia
GUWAHATI: As the Government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is gearing up to commemorate completion of the first year of its tenure on May 10 with a month-long programme, Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia has alleged that the Government has so afr failed to fulfil many commitments made before elections.
Saikia said that before the last Assembly elections, incumbent Chief Minister had promised to provide one lakh Government jobs within one year and there was ample scope to do so because one lakh Governments posts have been lying vacant for the last six years. However, he said, the Government has failed to avail the opportunity so far.
Saikia also referred to the BJP’s ‘Vision Document’ of 2014, which promised to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six communities of Assam and also increase the daily wage of tea garden labourers to Rs 351. While the issue of ST status still remains unresolved despite the BJP’s previous commitment, the daily wage of tea garden workers was raised only nominally, Saikia said.
