Assam Assembly LoP criticises Amit Shah’s comment against Mahatma

Guwahati, June 11: The leader of the Opposition in the Assam Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, and Assam PCC (APCC) today expressed outrage at the “insulting” comment of BJP president Amit Shah that Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi was a ” chatur baniya”.

While asserting that the BJP had started revealing its true colours now, Saikia expressed his surprise that Shah had felt no qualms or shame about terming Gandhi ji thus.

“Amit Shah had begun by verbally and punitively targeting Opposition leaders and non-compliant media houses like NDTV and he has now taken the RSS agenda even lower by using disparaging and nasty words against the person who spearheaded the freedom movement while members of the Sangh Parivar were colluding with the British regime,” Saikia said.

Saikia appealed to the people of the country in general and Assam in particular to reject the BJP’s efforts to distort history and malign revered freedom fighters.

He expressed confidence that people would soon thwart the dangerous agenda of the RSS.

The PCC organised a three-hour protest at Rajiv Bhawan here. It’s senior spokesperson, Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya, said the comment was an insult to all the freedom fighters of the country. He demanded an unconditional apology from Shah for his comment.
